Anti-Racism Statement

SWA Anti-Racism Commitment

We are a women-only specialist charity supporting survivors of domestic abuse.  We recognise that racism and systematic inequality disproportionally impact black women, women of colour, migrant women, and women from minoritised and ethnic communities.

Domestic abuse does not happen in isolation.  For many women, experiences of racism, discrimination, insecure immigration status, language barriers and economic inequality increase vulnerability and create additional barriers to safety.

We are committed to being actively anti-racist.

What this means in practice

We will:

  • Provide culturally informed, trauma-responsive support.

  • Work to remove barriers faced by racially minoritised and migrant women.

  • Offer interpretation and accessible communication.

  • Challenge racism within our charity and services.

  • Advocate for systems that protect all women, regardless of race or immigration status.

  • Recruit, support, strengthen and develop a diverse workforce including at leadership and trustee levels.

  • Embed anti-racist practice across our governance and strategy.

  • Listen to feedback and act on it.
